Our beloved English Kieran is leaving us for the verdant pastures of his homeland and we are dedicating this entire final episode of our season to giving him a proper send off. Prodigal son Matty Blake returns to join Dan as host and manages to not make a single Benedict Arnold joke! Tune in for multiple special guests, highlights from Grinds past, heartfelt goodbyes, and other surprises. We love you Kieran and miss you already. Long live the queen!
Yes we’ve been away for a while but we have a darn good reason: Prepping the amazing last two episodes of this season of the Actor’s Grind! The first of the two, which we are proud to present here, boasts the incredibly talented actor Brian Avers AND a huge announcement from English Kieran.
Brian’s directorial debut, celebrated indie comedy The Weekend is now available on iTunes, Hulu, and Amazon Instant. (Watch that sucker, it’s awesome!)
As an actor, Brian has regularly performed on & off Broadway, including The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Tom Stoppard’s Rock N Roll, King Lear at the Public opposite Kevin Kline, Becky Shaw at South Coast Rep, and originated roles in Completeness by Itamar Moses at Playwright’s Horizons and The Explorer’s Club by Nell Benjamin at Manhattan Theater Club. TV & film appearances include Julie/Julia, Gigantic, In Lieu of Flowers, “Castle”, “The Closer”, “Person of Interest”, “Blue Bloods”, “Golden Boy”, “Medium”, and recurring character Agent Renko on “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.”
Brian is also the producer and co-host of a profane and passionate Ohio State football podcast, The Buckeye Brothers, which can be found on iTunes or podbean.com.
Listen up actors this week’s guest is speaking DIRECTLY to you. We’re thrilled to welcome our first-ever Casting Director guest: Stacy Gallo. This commercial casting powerhouse has seen it all, and shares her industry insight with us on this very special episode.
Our topic is – what else -THE AUDITION, also explored in an great new “What the Heller” segment. Plus the prodigal son returns! Stacy’s visit is so big that it brings Matty B temporarily out of retirement! Not sure how to get rid of him now, suggestions welcome.
The boys welcome Mark Sarian. Mark is a comedy writer, actor, teacher and producer of content. Mark talks about being a UCB Alum, his thoughts on how to define yourself as an actor and tells a great Broadway audition story. Mark also plays perhaps his most difficult role to date: Matty and Kieran’s couple counselor. Mark is truly hilarious, thoughtful and talented. A great episode full of laughs!
A long awaited, very special episode. We’ve talked film, TV, Commercial and VO acting, and we’ve talked Broadway. Our guest Jamie Effros does it all, plus an area we haven’t really focused on: Jamie is fully committed to bringing live theater to you. ANYWHERE. He truly believes in the power of theater and his life and career are a testament to that belief. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and get your acting hands dirty, Jamie’s passion is contagious. Despite some technical problems, poor English Kieran has finally been able to post this episode, which was supposed to be our “Presidents Day Special”.
Oh, you might want to wish the poor chap a Happy Birthday this week!
Katharine Heller is our guest this week…and this time…it’s personal. This multi-talented artist opens up about her personal life and how she brought that to her art. This is an area The Grind has wanted to delve into deeper: using your life experiences in your creative endeavors. Katharine is an open, funny, super smart talent who we loved having on the Grind. Also, don’t miss the boys pitch to the BBC, a huge American action guest star on Downton Abbey. Plus, Kieran FREAKISHLY predicts the Superbowl perfectly, recorded before the game!
We “give our regards to Broadway” as we welcome Sebastian Arcelus to the show. Sebastian is a Broadway star but ALSO a filmmaker and star of the new show ‘House Of Cards’ with Kevin Spacey. This friend of the Grind opens up about how he trained himself, spending hours listening to musicals in the library, working his way up to Broadway and beyond. A great interview from a great guy.
Michael McGlone is our guest, a great way to kick off the New Year. You probably know Michael from his incredible performances in Edward Burns films such as ‘The Brothers McMullen’ and ‘She’s The One’. You may recognize him from his famous Gieco ads or his recurring role on Person Of Interest. This is a powerful interview in which Michael shares his sincere passion for life. Matty and Kieran also catch up on everything that’s happened since our last episode and it’s quite a list! Here’s to a great 2013 for all Grinders!
Troy Hall is a very successful commercial and voiceover actor. He’s also an award winning filmmaker and screenwriter. Troy is the personification of what we always say on the Grind “create your own content”. A great episode in which Matty finally gets to play a Rocky quote. We can’t believe it’s taken this long!
